During its operations in Gaza, the IDF uncovered evidence that Hamas had manipulated poll results from the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR) to create a misleading impression of support for the group.

According to the IDF, polls released in March were distorted by Hamas. One poll asked, “Who do you think will win this war?” and falsely reported that 56% of respondents supported Hamas, while only 18% supported Israel. In reality, 30% supported Hamas and 52.2% believed Israel would win the war.
Another poll compared potential presidential candidates Mahmoud Abbas and Ismail Haniyeh. Hamas distorted the results, which actually showed Abbas with 25.8% support compared to Haniyeh’s 21.3%, by claiming that 48% favored Haniyeh and only 22% supported Abbas.
In a survey on leadership satisfaction, 31.9% of respondents approved of Hamas, and 22.1% supported Sinwar. The manipulated results misleadingly claimed that Hamas had a 62% approval rating and that 52% approved of Yahya Sinwar, the current Hamas leader.
