Hamas claimed responsibility for the failed Tel Aviv suicide bombing attempt on Sunday night.
Hamas said it worked in cooperation with Islamic Jihad and will carry out future attacks.
The terrorist was walking down Lehi Road in south Tel Aviv with a backpack with spontaneously detonated, killing him and mildly wounding someone standing nearby.
Initially, police investigated it as a possible organized crime killing until Shin Bet, Israel’s security agency, confirmed it was a terror attack.
Shin Bet released a statement on Monday that “it can be said that this was a terror attack, with the detonation of a powerful explosive device.”
The identity of the middle-aged terrorist hasn’t been confirmed, but Shin Bet believes he is likely to be from Nablus.
