El Al inked a deal with Boeing to purchase up to 31 737 MAX aircraft to replace its current fleet.
In the initial phase of the deal, El Al will purchase 20 new aircraft for $1.5 billion and may buy 11 additional planes.
The deal is intended to replace El Al’s 737-800 and 737-900 fleet, and the new planes are expected to start operating in 2028.
Earlier in the year, El Al purchased an additional 787 Dreamliners.
In a statement, El Al’s CEO Dina Ben-Tal Ganancia said, “This is a significant milestone for El Al, which will allow us to offer our customers the most advanced service and technology experience in the industry.”
