As airlines around the world cancel flights to Israel given threats of an Iranian attack, an Israeli airline is already prepared with its missile defense system.
El Al, Israel’s leading airline, has incorporated technology to deflect missile attacks since 2004.
The technology El Al uses was developed by the Israeli Air Force for commercial planes.
The original technology in 2004 was updated in 2014 and uses a system called C-MUSIC.
Israeli defense company Elbit describes C-MUSIC on its site as “A Civil Aviation Authority certified, laser-based, fully automatic and autonomous system that provides large jet aircraft with comprehensive protection against advanced heat-seeking ground-to-air missiles.”
The system emits a laser beam whose heat can divert a missile from its intended target.
