Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has threatened to invade Israel in an effort to stop its 10 month war against Hamas.
Erdogan compared a plan to Turkey’s assistance to Azerbaijan during a 44-day conflict with Armenia in 2020 and its deployment of troops to support Libya the same year.
Erdogan said, “Turkey must be “very strong so that Israel can’t do these things to the Palestinians.” He added, “There is nothing we can’t do. We must only be strong.”
As a member of NATO, Erdogan would face condemnation for such military action against Israel.
Instead, Erdogan has accused the West of allowing Israel to “spread war” across the Middle East.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz compared Erdogan to the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
He wrote on X, “Erdogan is going down the path of Saddam Hussein and threatens to attack Israel. He should just remember what happened there and how that ended.”
