After the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei ordered a direct attack against Israel.

Although Israel has not claimed responsibility for the killing of Haniyeh in Tehran, it is widely believed that he was targeted by Israel.

According to the New York Times, Khamenei made the declaration at an emergency meeting of the Supreme National Security Council.

“With this action, the criminal and terrorist Zionist regime prepared the ground for harsh punishment for itself, and we consider it our duty to seek revenge for his blood as he was martyred in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Khamenei said in a statement.

Iranian officials quoted by the Times said they may be considering a direct drone or missile assault similar to those in Tel Aviv and Haifa or against military bases.

Iran may consider a coordinated attack from Iranian proxies in Lebanon and Yemen.
