A total of 10 young people were killed, and 30 others were wounded in a Hezbollah rocket attack in the Golan Heights on Saturday.
The attack occurred on a soccer field in the Druze village of Majdal Shams.
All of those killed were between the ages of 10 and 20 in the deadliest attack yet in the nearly 10 months of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
The IDF reported that, although sirens were warning of the attack, they did not go off long enough, and Israel’s military is investigating why the rocket wasn’t intercepted.
Hezbollah denied attacking civilians in Majdal Shams, although they did say they fired rockets at a military base.
However, after an investigation, the IDF confirmed the attack was launched by Hezbollah.
Israeli officials told Kan News that there would be a severe response to Hezbollah’s attack.
The official said, “The events in the north will bring about a dramatic turn in fighting in the area.”
Kan quoted the official as saying, “The disaster at Majdal Shams could signal a change of direction in the war.”
