The IDF reported eliminating several dozen terrorists in the city of Shejaiya in Central Gaza after renewing operations there last Thursday.
The IDF also stated that it’s likely more than 40 terrorists have been killed in strikes into buildings and tunnels.
Israel’s military returned to the region after several months because Hamas terrorists had returned to Shejaiya, regrouped, and recruited more members.
Troops discovered rocket launchers, additional tunnels, and terror infrastructure.
Over the weekend, in two separate operations in Shejaiya, two IDF soldiers were killed and three were injured.
The two fallen soldiers are Staff Sgt. Yair Avitan, 20, of the Paratroopers Brigade’s 890th Battalion, from Ra’anana and Sgt. First Class (res.) Yakir Shmuel Tatelbaum, 21, of the 7th Armored Brigade’s 77th Battalion, from Ma’ale Adumim.
The total number of Israeli troops that have been killed since the beginning of the war in Gaza is 318.
