Israel Faces UN Child Rights Committee Amidst Hamas Atrocities
Jerusalem, Israel – A high-level Israeli delegation is set to appear before the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in Geneva this Tuesday and Wednesday. The delegation, led by Justice Ministry Director General Itamar Donenfeld and Israeli Ambassador to the UN in Geneva Daniel Meron, includes representatives from various ministries and the military advocate general’s office.
Mother of Slain Teen to Address Committee
Notably, the delegation includes Sabin ta’asa, a resident of Netiv Ha’asara who tragically lost her 17-year-old son Or and husband Gil in the Hamas massacre on October 7th. אור was murdered on Zikim Beach, and גיל was killed while protecting his two children. The children witnessed their father’s murder and were severely beaten by the terrorists. Parts of this horrific event were captured in the “horror film.”
Israel to Present Periodic Report
The delegation will present Israel’s latest periodic report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. During his address, Donenfeld is expected to highlight the challenges faced by children and youth in conflict zones. He will call on the committee members to condemn the terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah and support efforts to release all hostages held in Gaza, including the Bibas- Yarden family – Yarden, Shiri, and their children Ariel and Kfir.
Call for Justice and Accountability
The Israeli delegation’s appearance before the CRC comes at a critical time, as the world grapples with the aftermath of the Hamas attacks. Israel seeks to shed light on the devastating impact of terrorism on children and families, while also demonstrating its commitment to upholding the rights of all children within its borders.
