The latest clash in the ongoing disputes between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over Israel’s Gaza strategy erupted during a security cabinet meeting last night, according to several Hebrew media sources.
The confrontation began when Netanyahu revealed he had decided, without prior consultation with Gallant, to put the issue of IDF deployment along the Philadelphi Corridor on the Gaza-Egypt border to a vote.
The security cabinet was presented with maps prepared by the IDF outlining Israel’s plan to maintain its troop presence in the nine-mile stretch of the Philadelphi Corridor.
The cabinet voted eight to one, with one abstention, to support Netanyahu’s position on maintaining the Israeli military presence along the Gaza-Egypt border as part of any potential ceasefire and hostage release agreement. Gallant was the only dissenting vote.
