According to the EU’s Red Sea Naval Mission Aspides, the Greek oil tanker MV SOUNION now poses an environmental hazard after being hit by projectiles.
Terrorists thought to be Houthis launched projectiles from Yemen’s Hodeidah port towards the MV SOUNION which contains 150,000 tons of crude oil.
The crew was evacuated safely from the vessel.
Aspides posted on X “Carrying 150,000 tonnes of crude oil, the MV SOUNION now represents a navigational and environmental hazard.”
SOUNION was the third Greek oil tanker to be attacked in the Red Sea this month, with the previous attack causing a fire onboard extinguished by the crew.
