US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Israel has agreed to the updated “bridging proposal” presented by the US to secure the release of the hostages and the conclusion of the Gaza war.
Blinken didn’t indicate whether this “bridging proposal” included Israel’s demands, such as a military presence in Rafah and the Philadelphi corridor, conditions Hamas has rejected.
On Sunday night, Hamas announced that it rejected the updated hostage proposal and claimed that Israel had made additional demands.
After meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, Blinken said the newest proposal may be the last chance to secure the release of hostages from Gaza.
In addition, Blinken said the agreement would calm tensions in the regions and prevent the 10-month-long Gaza war from escalating and opening up the conflict on several fronts.
