The IDF announced that the new head of the Military Intelligence Directorate will be sworn in on Wednesday.
Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder is replacing Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva, who resigned over failures that led to Hamas’s invasion on October 7th and the ensuing massacre and hostage crisis.
The swearing-in ceremony was supposed to have taken place last month but was postponed after a strike killed Hezbollah senior commander Fuad Shukr.
Haliva was the first high-ranking military official to resign over the October 7th attack.
“The Military Intelligence Directorate, under my command, failed to warn of the terror attack carried out by Hamas,” Haliva said on October 17. “We failed in our most important mission, and as the head of the Military Intelligence Directorate, I bear full responsibility for the failure.”
