Columbia University President Minouche Shafik became the fourth Ivy League President to step down for missteps in handling antisemitism on campus.
Columbia became synonymous with the chaos of campus radicalism as an anti-Israel encampment last spring protesting the Gaza war took over entire sections of the campus.
Shafik was only president of Columbia for a year before she resigned prior to the start of the school year.
Shafik wrote in a statement, “I write with sadness to tell you that I am stepping down as president of Columbia University effective August 14, 2024.”
She added, “It has also been a period of turmoil where it has been difficult to overcome divergent views across our community.”
