Negotiations for the release of hostages will be postponed until after Iran retaliates for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh and a replacement is named for the Hamas leader, according to Times of Israel.

Qatari, Egyptian, and US mediators admitted that negotiations are likely to be more difficult after the assassination of Haniyeh, for which Israel has not claimed responsibility.

They also add that Hamas has yet to make any initiative to return to the negotiation table.

An Israeli delegation was in Cairo over the weekend, but the discussions were over whether or not the IDF would be allowed to remain in the Philadelphi Corridor, the buffer zone on the Gaza-Egypt border, rather than about the hostage release deal.

The talks were held despite an impasse in hostage negotiations after meditators tried to convince Hamas to back off from its demand that Israel commit to a full ceasefire before phase one of the agreement.
