An Israeli strike killed a Hezbollah commander responsible for the deadly Majdal Shams attack that killed 12 children and the 1983 Beirut bombing of a US marine base.
Fuad Shukr, also known as Hajj Mohsin was a senior adviser to Hezbollah head Hasan Nasrallah.
The attack occurred in the southern part of Beirut, a stronghold of Hezbollah.
The strike was a retaliation for a Hezbollah rocket attack on Saturday in Majdal Shams that killed 12 children in a soccer field and injured many others.
Shukr was also responsible for the bombing of a Beirut US Marines Base in 1983 which killed 241 military personnel.
The US had a $5 million bounty on Shukrs head and several members of Congress thanked Israel for eliminating the Hezbollah commander.
