According to a television poll on Friday, most Israelis prefer Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remain in his position over Opposition Leader Yair Lapid, former premier Naftali Bennett, and National Unity chair Benny Gantz.
Between Netanyahu and Bennett, the numbers were close at 33% and 32%, respectively, with the rest saying they didn’t know.
In a match between Netanyahu and Opposition leader Lapid, 32% preferred Netanyahu, 28% would choose Lapid, and the rest were undecided.
Netanyahu versus Gantz resulted in 32% voting for the premier, 28% preferring Gantz, and the rest being undecided.
Although there was speculation that Netanyahu’s address to Congress may have bolstered his popularity, 65% said the speech didn’t affect their choice and 41% said he went to Washington to further their own interests.
It doesn’t seem that Netanyahu’s commitment to “total victory” in the Gaza war influenced the result, since only 29% said this should be the first priority compared to 62% said bringing home the hostages should be the main focus.
