Natalie Portman’s TV Series Highlights Jewish-African American Relations in the 1960s

Israeli actress Natalie Portman is producing and performing in a new series that explores Jewish-African American relations in 1960s America.

The series on Lady in the Lake premiers on Apple TV and stars Portman as Maddie Schwartz, a Jewish housewife in 1960s Baltimore whose life unexpectedly crosses with Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram), an African American mother supporting her children and fighting for political change.

The series is based on a novel by Jewish author Laura Lippman.

Also in the television series is Brett Gelman of Stranger Things, who portrays Milton, Maddie’s husband.

Gelman has advocated vocally for Israel since October 7th and performed in the Israeli comedy series Eretz Nehederet.
