On Saturday, Israel struck military targets in Yemen in retaliation for the Iran-backed Houthis deadly drone attack in Tel Aviv on Friday.
This is the first time Israel’s military has launched strikes against Yemen despite the Houthis launching 200 attacks against Israel since October.
The IDF struck Yemen’s Hodeidah Port is used as an entry port controlled by the Houthis for the transport of weapons from Iran.
Fires broke out as Israel struck Hodeidah port which contains oil and gas depots and a power station.
“The fire burning in Hodeidah is seen across the Middle East, and the significance is clear,” Yoav Gallant, the Israeli defense minister, said after the attack.
“The Houthis attacked us over 200 times. The first time that they harmed an Israeli citizen, we struck them — and we will do this wherever it may be required,” he added.
Nasruddin Amer, a Houthi spokesman, vowed to continue attacks against Israel.
“Yemen’s operations in support of Gaza will not stop,” he vowed. “The response to this aggression is inevitable.”
