Israelis who are frustrated that they have to take a number at a pharmacy to get some aspirin will welcome the news that Israel will join many other Western countries and start selling over-the-counter drugs outside of pharmacies.
The move had been planned for years but was delayed until the Knesset Health Committee approved changes to Pharmacists’ regulations regarding active ingredients in medications that are allowed to be sold in regular stores.
The updated regulations will allow the sale of medicines without a doctor’s prescription to the public.
These medicines treat severe pain, heartburn, wounds, Herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1), diarrhea and other conditions.
