Marvel Robs Sabra Superhero of Israeli Identity

Marvel Studios is removing the Jewish identity from its Israeli Sabra superhero, played by Israeli actress Shira Haas, and is instead portraying her as a former Russian spy.

When Shira Haas of Shitsel signed on to play the Israeli superhero, whose real-life name is Ruth Bet Seraph, she understood she would portray an Israeli character in the film Captain America: Brave New World.

However, Marvel has decided to cave into pressure from anti-Israel BDS protesters and is instead changing the story to make her a Russian spy while retaining her Jewish name.

Sabra was a character Marvel introduced in 1980 and fought to defend Israel in Tel Aviv and by the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

Although the cast includes the first African American Captain America, it’s apparent that diversity doesn’t extend to openly Jewish and Israeli characters.
