On Monday night, just days after surviving an assassination attempt, Donald Trump announced Ohio Senator J.D. Vance would be his Vice Presidential running mate.
Although J.D. Vance was once a staunch critic of Donald Trump and of foreign aid, he has more recently declared himself loyal to Trump and supportive of sending arms to Israel.
Although some characterized him as an America First isolationist, Vance has made the distinction between aid to Israel and aid to Ukraine.
In May, at a conference held by the Quincy Institute, Vance explained, “I’m supportive of Israel and their war against Hamas … I do not think that it is in America’s interest to continue to fund an effectively never-ending war in Ukraine.”
He has also blasted the Biden Administration’s policy on the Gaza war as “inconsistent” and was critical of withholding weapons to try to prevent Israel from operating in Rafah.
