In an election season characterized by political divisions within America, the attempt to assassinate Donald Trump on Saturday has led to calls for greater unity by both candidates.
Immediately after being shot in the ear on Saturday, Trump made a fist pump in the air and said “fight” to a cheering crowd.
Following his recovery from mild injuries, the former president called for unity in the face of “evil.”
He posted “In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win.”
He added, “It was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening”.
Shortly after the assassination attempt, US President Joe Biden condemned the political violence against Trump as “sick” and said, ““I want to speak to you tonight about the need for us to lower the temperature in our politics,”
“We’re neighbors or friends, coworkers, citizens. Most importantly, we are fellow Americans, we must stand together,” Biden said.
