Both Hamas and Israel Have Agreed to Hand Over Control of Gaza to Palestinian Government- Report
Amid negotiations in Doha for a hostage release agreement leading to a ceasefire, both Hamas and Israel have agreed that control of Gaza should be given to a US-trained Palestinian force, as reported by the Washington Post on Wednesday.
The report was authored by commentator David Ignatius and cited anonymous sources that 2,500 US-trained Palestinian Authority supporters will take responsibility for security in Gaza.
The members are Gazans who have been vetted by Israel and given security approval.
Although the report indicates both sides have agreed, neither Israel nor Hamas have confirmed this.
Hamas overthrew the Palestinian Authority in Gaza in 2007 after a bloody coup, and there have been conflicts between the two groups in Gaza ever since.
Earlier in the war, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed US proposals that would put Gaza in control of the Palestinian Authority.
