Avigdor Liberman, the chairman of a major Israeli political party, Yisrael Beytenu, has a message to French Jews: ‘“Leave France and emigrate to Israel, there is no time to lose.”
The message comes as the far-left, New Popular Front Alliance, led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, secured a surprise first-place showing in France’s Parliamentary elections.
Although falling short of the threshold of 289 out of 577 National Assembly seats to take control, the New Popular Front Alliance may be able to form a coalition since it has the most seats.
Concerning the New Popular Front leader, Liberman said, “Mélenchon “became famous with quite a few statements against Jews and the State of Israel. His party represents pure antisemitism and expresses a significant increase in hatred of Israel and antisemitism.”
In addition, Mélenchon has declared his intention to recognize a Palestinian state.
On the far right, placing third is Marine Le Pen’s National Rally party. Le Pen has struggled to shed her father Jean-Marie Le Pen’s Holocaust denial and antisemitism, but his shadow still looms large over Marine Le Pen’s political career and reputation.
