Beloved US Novelist John Irving told Israeli audiences at Mishkenot Sha’ananim, “You are the bravest people I know.”
Irving, author of The World According to Garp and Ciderhouse Rules, had to cancel his visit to the Jerusalem Writer’s Conference due to COVID-19.
However, he kept his promise to come to Jerusalem on his first trip to Israel since 1981.
“I sincerely believe you’re the bravest people I know. Keep doing this,” he said.
Irving also said, “I’m pro-Israel, I’m pro-Jewish, and I’m for you. that may not necessarily mean that I’m in favor of your present leader.”
Irving discussed his current novel, the last chapter of which takes place in Jerusalem.
