In May, the Turkish government announced a trade embargo with Israel in protest over IDF operations in Gaza.
However, despite this, there is a marked increase in Turkish cars appearing in Israel, according to Globes.
In May-June 2024, 2,847 private and commercial vehicles manufactured in Turkey were delivered in Israel, worth approximately NIS 250 million.
How is this possible? One clue is to look at the number of cars delivered to Greece from Turkey and then from Greece to Israel; it seems that Turkish companies are getting past the embargo by way of Greece.
This is consistent with an inexplicable increase in Turkish exports to Greece, which occurred in May, much of which were comprised of automobiles perhaps destined for Israel.
