According to Egyptian media, Egypt is contacting Israeli and Hamas officials about renewing the hostage deal and ceasefire negotiations.
After many attempts, hostage deal negotiations were stalled following Hamas initially indicating it would agree but ultimately refusing to comply with a deal that doesn’t involve Israel committing to a permanent ceasefire in the first phase.
Egypt also seeks to persuade Israel to withdraw from the Gazan side of the Rafah crossing leading to Egypt.
Egyptian officials said the Palestinians should be in charge of governance in Gaza after the war and that Egypt will not send troops to Gaza.
